Come summers and everyone is looking for a perfect destination to cool off. With summers getting hotter by the year, here are a few destinations in the Southern part of India that are surely going to take your breath away. Whether it is a romantic getaway or a family vacation, these are the top holiday destinations in South India to pick from:

Ooty

Ooty, in Tamil Nadu almost seems like it has been designed for tourists who are trying to escape the Summer. There are so many gorgeous cottages and resorts that you can enjoy. If you want to cater to the thrill seeker in you, you can even try activities like hand gliding and angling. Of course, you can bring home some great homemade chocolates, silk thread flower arrangements and a lot more from there.

Idukki

Idukki is one of the lesser-known holiday destinations in the South India. It is a gorgeous hill station that is known for housing the first Arch Dam in Asia. Explore different cultures through interactions with the aboriginal tribes. You can also walk through lush tea and spice plantations here.

Munnar

Munnar is known for its sprawling tea estates. It is one of the best holiday destinations because it has remained completely untouched by the chaos of urban life. You can explore the beautiful lush country side that is dotted with several waterfalls, buy some local grown tea, spices, cashews and also sample some delicious chocolates.

Coorg

Coorg is not called the Scotland of the South for nothing. The beautiful hills are eternally fog laden. In addition to this, the waterfalls, the meandering rivers and the clean, fresh air make you feel one with nature. You can even witness the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises in Coorg.

Ponmundi

Known as Kerala’s Golden Peak, Ponmundi is known for its wonderful trails, mountains, and large spread of tea estates. Besides this, the place is home to several species of butterflies. It seems like a land that is straight out of a fairy tale. Explore the dense forests and bathe in clean waterfalls while you are at Ponmundi.

Yercaud

This hill station is located in the Eastern Ghats. It is filled with some of the most picturesque landscapes with parks, waterfalls, and lakes. The best thing is that the temperature in Yercaud never goes above 30 degrees Celsius.

Kodaikanal

This holiday destination is known for being Bollywood’s favorite romantic duet location. You can watch the green spreads from the several mountain viewpoints that Kodaikanal offers. The lakes are filled with water lilies and the hills are covered with greenery. This fog covered town is a great destination to just cool off during the summer.

Coonoor

The lush slopes of Coonoor makes one feel as if time just passes by in a flash here. This place is known for its range of flora and fauna. Tea gardens and picnic spots are synonymous with Coonoor. You have to try the push-pull train that connects Coonoor and Ooty. It runs through the hills and is an experience of a lifetime.

There are so many other adjoining towns and villages that you can explore while you are at these destinations. So, pack your bags and off you go!
